Riveted by hook?

Small update: I've obtained an 1954 article which describes the helmet and my actual impression is that a (butted or hooked) mail fragment is not linked to the helmet find.

The article describes the helmet and its aventail rusted inside the helmet (ring size ~6 mm) however mentions no further mail fragment associated.

In the next step, I'll attempt to obtain more information about the mail fragment itself (origin, history etc.)
